What Is Unthought?
Quick answer
Unthought is an iPhone mindfulness meditation app with AI video coaches who guide you through mindful moments throughout your day. You tap Meditate Now, pick how you want to feel and where you are, and a coach walks you through a short practice made for that moment. It's built for people who want more calm, focus and joy, even if meditation hasn't worked for them before.
What does Unthought do?
Most meditation apps ask you to find one long block of time every day. Unthought takes a different view: meditate often, not long. You fit small mindful moments into the day you already have, at your desk, at home, lying down or out in public.
Each moment is guided by a video coach who talks you through it, the way a friend would if they were sitting next to you. You choose how you want to feel (Calm, Focus, Rest, Release, Joy or Love), and Unthought matches you with a practice for it.
Who are the Unthought coaches?
Unthought has a cast of six coaches, each with their own style:
- Kai, gentle and steady, who teaches the 28-day course
- Kira, bright and caring
- James, grounded and thoughtful
- Amy, warm and kind
- Charles, joyful, always finding one good thing
- Sarah, energetic and upbeat
The coaches are AI-generated video guides, and we're open about that. They are not real people, therapists or medical professionals. We made them because a face and a voice make it much easier to follow along than a timer and a chime.
What is the 28-day course?
Inside the app is a 28-day mindfulness meditation training that teaches you to meditate from the very beginning. Each day is one short guided video with Kai, covering a single idea, then a sit you do together.
The course starts with the basics: arriving, the breath, and what to do when your mind wanders. It builds from there, one small step a day. If you've ever read about meditation but never felt sure you were doing it right, this is the part of Unthought built for you.
The first 7 days of that course are free by email right now. You don't need the app to take them.
How do mindful moments work?
A mindful moment is a short pause where you stop, breathe and notice what's happening right now, instead of getting pulled along by every thought. You don't need to empty your mind. You just learn to watch your thoughts instead of becoming them.
In Unthought you can start one any time with Meditate Now. You can also set Mindful Nudges, gentle reminders that invite you into a moment at the times you choose. Every moment you take earns Mindful points, so you can see your practice grow over the week.
Why is it called Unthought?
"Unthought" means something you haven't thought yet. We liked that, because so much of mindfulness is about the space before the next thought pulls you away.
Is Unthought free?
You can start for free in two ways:
- The free 7-day course by email. One short lesson a day with Kai, plus a printable workbook page for each day. It's free, and you keep it even if you never download the app.
- The app's free trial. When Unthought is live on the App Store, you can try Premium free before you pay.
While Unthought is in review with Apple, people who join the free course can also lock in a founding year of Premium at a reduced price. That offer ends when Apple approves the app.
Who is Unthought for?
Unthought is for anyone who wants to feel calmer, think clearer and enjoy life more, and especially for people who have tried meditation and quit. If you've ever sat down, felt your mind race and decided meditation "isn't for you," start with why meditation doesn't work for most people.
Unthought is for everyday relaxation and focus. It isn't a medical or mental health treatment. If you're struggling, please talk to a doctor or a mental health professional.
How do I start?
The simplest way to try Unthought is the free 7-day mindfulness meditation course. Day 1 arrives in your inbox right after you join, and each day after that brings the next lesson with Kai.
Questions
Is Unthought free?
The 7-day mindfulness meditation course is free by email at unthought.app, and you never need to download the app to get it. The app itself has a free trial, then Unthought Premium is a paid subscription.
Are the Unthought coaches real people?
No. Unthought's coaches are AI-generated video guides, not real people, therapists or medical professionals. They're designed to feel warm and human so practicing feels like sitting with a friend.

Not yet. Unthought is launching on iPhone first. You can still take the free 7-day course by email on any device.
How is Unthought different from Headspace or Calm?
Unthought is built around many short mindful moments through your day, each guided by a video coach, instead of one long session you have to find time for. It also includes a 28-day mindfulness meditation course for people who want to learn to meditate properly from the beginning.
